Headache
Most of us experience a headache during our lifetime. Headaches symptoms and how long they last can vary. Depending on their severity they can limit our ability to perform routine activities. It is important to correctly diagnose the type of headache you are experiencing and its cause so it can be managed appropriately. Treatment can vary and may include improving sleep hygiene, medications, or even an oral appliance.
- Tension Type Headache – This is the most common type of headache. It is often described as dull and achy or a “tight-band” around the head. They can last for a few hours to several days. If they are not appropriately addressed they can be debilitating.
- Migraine – This is often a severe, pounding type headache. It is commonly experienced by women of child-bearing age and may run in families. These headaches are often associated with sensitivity to light or sound, nausea or vomiting, and a need to lie down. Migraines may be brought on by triggering foods or activities. Part of the diagnosis and management may include creating a pain diary to identify those triggers to treat the migraine.
